After the Shanghai Major came the long-awaited roster shuffle. This one is the most significant one yet, because teams that lock their roster now will have that same roster up until the end of the TI6 in August. This scenario created exciting and unexpected roster changes to many of the top-tier teams in competitive Dota 2. In this piece, we'll be bringing you the hottest topics.
TEAM SECRET (EU)
A team that ultimately won the Shanghai Major made some pretty exciting roster changes to their lineup, in a similar way to EG’s kicking of Aui_2000 after their TI5 victory. Again, the main culprit here is Arteezy who is returning to the mid lane after a pretty extended hiatus and he is bringing with him arguably the best offlaner out there, Universe. According to EternalEnvy, the team was looking to change even before the Shanghai victory and their bad results against Na’Vi in DotaPit LAN reinforced that decision. Now, once again, Team Secret has a star-packed lineup much like they had a year ago, but will they be able to win Manilla Major and TI6? We’ll have to wait and see.
Team Secret Lineup:
EVIL GENIUSES (NA)
Evil Geniuses were forced to make quick roster changes because Team Secret signed 2 of their players just four days before the roster lock. In a somewhat suprising turn of events, Aui_2000 is back in the team and is bringing BuLba with him. After their unsuccessful time at Digital Chaos, they are looking to turn the tables and to be one of the best teams in the upcoming season. The interesting thing is that both Aui_2000 and BuLba played for EG before. We all know that Aui_2000 was part of the TI5 winner squad, but BuLba played for EG in TI2, where they finished 9th-12th. Other big thing to look out here is that Aui_2000 is back on the carry role after a while, which is a downgrade from Arteezy, but nonetheless, this team can be on the very top again if ppd brings the best out of everyone.
Evil Geniuses Lineup:
DIGITAL CHAOS (NA)
A big winner from the Secret/EG shuffle is Digital Chaos, a team that didn’t find much success since its founding. But on paper, they are looking as strong as Evil Geniuses are. Misery and W33 came from Secret, Moo from Archon and Saksa from Mamas Boys, while Resolut1on is staying with the team. Even though a bit unknown, Saksa is actually the 2nd player on MMR leaderboards with only OG’s Miracle- in front of him. Saksa was also one of the first ones to hit 8000 MMR and Moo was Archon’s best player in the Shanghai Major. All this will probabbly lead to a very exciting team that will contend for the place in Major in TI.
Digital Chaos Lineup:
A big suprise swap came from the Virtus.Pro squad who, after Summit, didn’t get so many satisfying results in their team and had to change something. The initial Virtus.Pro team split into 2, with fng and G staying in the main squad with Silent as a sub and Lil and DkPhobos going to the Polarity squad. Main squad got some of Team Empire’s players (ALOHADANCE and NoFear) in their lineup, while Polarity picked up 9pasha from Vega Squadron, Afoninje from HellRaisers and Jenya, who is a famous CIS pub star. By doing this, they sparked lots of controversies on the internet, with lots of people questioning their decisions. All in all, we’ll see in the upcoming months if they were right.
TEAM SPIRIT (CIS)
Team Spirit has arguably picked up good replacements for AfterLife and RAMZES666, signing Illidan and Funn1k, 2 players with lots of experience in the game and playing in tier 1 teams. Illidan was most famous for being a long-time carry for Virtus.Pro and Funn1k was Na’Vi’s offlaner for a while. Right now, Team Spirit’s roster looks a lot more stable, but after the shakeup in multiple CIS teams, it will be very hard for them to repeat their success and qualify for the next Major.
Team Spirit Lineup:
TEAM EMPIRE (CIS)
Team Empire came into the new season with a completely new roster after all of their players scattered around the globe (ALOHADANCE and NoFear to VP, Resolut1on to DC, Funn1k to Team Spirit and XBOCT to Fantastic Five). Luckily for them, they didn’t take too long to consolidate and fill their roster before the end of the signing period. Empire picked RAMZES666 and Afterlife from Team Spirit among with Scandal, Miposhka and KingR, mixing raw talent and experience. Sadly for them, because of complete roster change, they were dropped from the EPICENTER qualifiers, but most likely, their first LAN will be ESL One Manilla due to the old roster qualifying for the event.
Team Empire Lineup:
After a disappointing Shanghai Major for all of Chinese teams, EHOME was the first one to react to it and pick up iceiceice and Fenrir for supporting roles, while their captain, LaNm, moved to the carry role. That meant that cty and kaka had to find another team to play with (VG for cty and Newbee for kaka). Even though last team did win the MarsTV League, the management of the team didn’t want to wait too long for the change. Also, LaNm and iceiceice will not be playing their usual roles (support and offlaner, respectively), so we will be in for a very exciting and less predictable EHOME.
VICI GAMING/VICI GAMING REBORN (CHINA)
Vici Gaming picked up where EHOME started, dropping 4 players from their roster, with BurNing the only one still in the team. Two less known players, jdh from EHOME.King and HYM from HyperGloryTeam will be making their young support duo. Cty will be taking the mid role and rOtk will be once again play offlane for Vici Gaming’s team. On the other side, fy (Vici’s former captain) went on to make his own stack named Vici Gaming Reborn. Contrary to the first team, a very experienced support duo will be in the team (fy and DDC), while VG.Potential’s carry Zy (now known as END) and their offlaner, Yang will be joining the team and NoNo (a very young and talented player) will be their mid. Those teams have already clashed in ESL One Manilla China qualifiers, where VG.R beat the main team with result of 2-0.

Vici Gaming Reborn Lineup:
LGD GAMING (CHINA)
LGD possibly has the strongest roster in the China region right now with lots of interesting newcomers to the team. Agressif joined from CDEC Gaming and xiao8 once again came back from retirement joined by a young support, September. Among those 3 there are Maybe and MMY!, who will be staying with the team for the upcoming season. The return of xiao8 could mean a return to top 3 finishes for LGD, but at the moment, we still don’t know how they will look ingame.
LGD Gaming Lineup:
CDEC Gaming (CHINA)
Last, but not the least, we will be presenting team CDEC. They dropped their 3 core players while deciding to build around Q and garder, who are CDEC’s support duo from when they finished 2nd in TI5. Joining them will be Rabbit, Super and Yao, 3 “older” players with lots of experience in them, making it a team with all 5 players who participated in TI’s, something that is a rarity in top tier China teams at the moment. However, will Q be able to find the best our of the old guard, we have yet to find out.
In the end, there are some teams worth mentioning that didn’t change their rosters at all, like OG, Team Liquid, Alliance or some teams such as Vega Squadron that only swapped one of their players. All in all, we can expect a very exciting season in the world of Dota 2 filled with surprises and impressive plays. Stay tuned!
