Whispers of the Old Gods: The Hype Continues!

Hearthstone’s next expansion Whispers of the Old Gods was announced almost two weeks ago and there was no denying that the crowed was hyped! This expansion was long awaited – and it will make us wait a bit longer too – but it will surely be a milestone for Hearthstone.

The third expansion for Hearthstone will arrive between late April and early May, bringing with it 134 new cards. Along with it, another awaited feature will hit the clients, the Standard Format. The expansion’s theme are “Corrupted” cards which are cards that have been “influenced” by the Old Gods and have their stats changed.

During the announcement stream, there were six cards revealed, which are too few of  an amount to decide how the expansion will affect the game but it definitely gives us a small taste of what is to come. These cards were the following:

As the days pass by and up to this point, Blizzard gradually revealed another thirteen cards:

Undeniably, C’Thun and the cards associated with him are the ones that seem to be able to affect the meta so far, and of course, the Eater of Secrets who will be the bane of one of the current meta’s staples; Secret Paladin. The “Forbidden” themed cards also do seem powerful and will definitely be tried out by Hearthstone’s card-slingers.

So far only 2 legendaries have been revealed, C’Thun which is available for all classes and Priest’s Herald Volazj. A big impact was also made by Warlock’s new card; DOOM. Which is another version of Twisting Nether.

As a reminder, upon launch, you will no longer be able to use Goblins vs Gnomes or Curse of Naxxramas cards in Standard Format, only Wild. What’s more a pre-order promotion is taking place which allows you to purchase 50 packs in advance for 44.99 Euros and awards you with a special cardback.

As we get closer to the release date more and more cards will be revealed and we will have a clearer idea on what’s to come. Finally, a week before the release ten to twelve classic cards will get a revision in order to balance according to the new meta and play format.
